Reviewer: Shooter2jimM, Location: Chattanooga, TN, Occupation: Construction/agriculture Almost perfect! This has quickly become my favorite Carhartt jacket and I've owned quite a few. The lightweight quilted lining provides plenty of warmth and ample sizing allows for ease of movement when layered over other winter clothing. By itself, the coat is enough protection in freezing temps but when layered with a Carhartt hooded sweatshirt, the Mankato is up to the challenge of all but the harshest North American weather. The waterproof breathable membrane shrugs off water like your best rain jacket, making it the ideal snow storm or cold rain storm protection. The quilted, removable hood is a huge plus. Zippered waist pockets are cavernous and chest pockets adequately large. Innovative curved-cut cuff keeps it from wearing on the back of your thumb. A big downside is the small, finicky, dual-head zipper that is hard to engage under normal circumstances, and even harder to use while wearing gloves. The chest pocket flaps are tiny have no means of securing them in the closed position- a shame since the pockets themselves are of a very useful size. Single-stitched seams are a minor concern but they are definitely an area for improvement for a jacket of this quality. The negatives of the undersized zippers and un-securable chest pocket flaps can be overlooked but keep me from giving this otherwise perfect jacket my highest rating.
Reviewer: OldGeekGuy, Location: Portland, OR My New Favorite Jacket I bought the Astoria Jacket and Pants for a trip to Mt. Hood in January. With suitable underlayering, they held up to three feet of snow without a hitch. More to the point, this is a versatile jacket that suits Portland's climate to a tee. I'm sure the next time I run out to the coast to visit Astoria, this jacket will live up to its name.
I did find the cut a little long in the sleeves at first, but I now find it close to perfect.
