Pretty good, could be even better
I measured myself for this vest and ordered the Large because my measurements matched those listed pretty accurately, but it came in quite oversized--I could wrap it over itself across my torso a good 3 inches. Returned it (had to pay postage, not fun) and got the medium which fits perfectly for my 60 yr old frame. I'm 5' 5" and 145lbs.
I bought this vest because I need tough brass zippers instead of those plastic zippers on all my other womens vests and jackets and they always fail--the zipper itself fails or the fastener for the pull cracks off.
This vest could have a bit less flare in the hips, but doesn't look too ridiculous. It flared out on the large and was a little weird. Medium is ok though.
Pockets--the two inside and the small zipper pocket--are too small. The inside pockets have velcro--don't count on using them on a daily basis until you remove that tuff stuff! The upper outside zip pocket is so small I can barely fit my hand in, but i'm managing, with my tiny phone and tiny card wallet. Conversely, the two handwarmer pockets on the outside are deep, snug and sherpa lined. Very good.
Big complaint: The lining is sewn in completely crooked and torqued. I wanted to send it back, but it will just cost me more money, and who's to say the retailer won't send you one with the same problem? But it's a baggy lining--as though Carhartt has one size lining only for each size vest or something. And it's cockeyed which I find unacceptable quality-control. I may see what my friend with sewing skills thinks of a possible home-made remedy.
All in all, I like it very much. The zipper was a little hard for the first couple weeks--placket at the zipper is creased in weird angles, I may try pressing it if I get the time.
