Classic look, plus simple and durable.
February 18, 2017

From: Western New York Age: 55-65 Gender: Male
I recently purchased the classic Carhartt Duck Chore Coat-brown with the blanket lining from Dungress.net. I prefer buttons over zippers for their durability and the metal buttons that come on this jacket are similar to what is found on traditional denim jean jackets. I appreciate the riveted-reinforced pockets and rivets at the stress points, along with the triple-stitched main seams. The duck material is fairly water resistant and quite windproof. I don’t like a snug or fitted jacket. I prefer loose and comfortable for layering and ease of movement. I’m in-between a 2-XLarge-Tall/ 3-XLarge-Tall in the Carhartt coats. I ordered the 3-XLarge-Tall and it was a bit big and stiff, however; no problem. I have a method with good success to wash a new and stiff canvas duck that softens and shrinks it for a better fit and drape. I washed it three times in succession in the washing machine with warm water. The first washing was with liquid laundry soap liquid fabric softer in the final rinse. This was followed by washing and rinsing in fabric softener. I dried in medium heat. It was a much better fit for me out of the dryer-with a softer, broken in feeling.

For work or casual wear the chore coat is an excellent choice. I own 3 of these coats and love them. You can't go wrong with this coat.

Just bought my 4th coat in 10 years
January 1, 2017

From: Guilford, VT Age: 55-64 Gender: Male
When I find something I like I tend to stick with it, and I like this coat. I bought my first in blue/green (no longer offered) and this is my third in brown. Also bought a new one for my son, who had been taking my cast-offs. The coat is warm, durable, comfortable, and great for hiking, skiiing, hauling wood or just walking the dog. I particularly like the velcro closure on the inside pocket--keeps my passport safe when I travel. My only complaint is that the blanket lining always frays under the side pockets. If Carhartt can fix that this coat will be perfect. Meanwhile it's pretty damn good.

Best Winter Jacket IMHO.
December 20, 2016

From: Mabelvale, AR Age: 55-64 Gender: Male
Working on the Barge's on the Upper Mississippi and Illinois River during the winter can get real cold , real fast. This type of Jacket is my 4th one in the last 27 years. It is by far the best for working on the river. My pants are also carhartts. If you want a jacket that will last and keep you warm while you are working then this is what you want. Customer service chat was helpful in finding the right size as I gave the my old tag number off my old jacket and they gave me the right size to order. My old jacket I still use around the house. Wife wants to throw it away but its like a old friend that you never want to let go no matter how old & worn out it is.
