Best boot in decades of wearing boots.

This former Boy Scout, paratrooper and still avid mountain hiker probably knows a little about wearing boots, and the Danner USMC temperate climate boots are the best he's ever worn, no contest. You don't have to be a Marine to like them; I wasn't, and I do. I've worn them anywhere from two or three hours to all day, three or four times a week, now for over two months in my work and in hiking on rough trails and logging tracks, and cross-country in rugged mountain and coastal terrain. They were as comfortable as a good pair of kid gloves right out of the box, steel toes and all (you wouldn't even know they have steel toes), they have just the right balance of support and flexure, great traction in all kinds of terrain, including mud, thick forest duff and rock and boulder scrambling, and their soles seem to be engineered to give a nice roll forward and spring as you step out in them; they do not fight you working uphill on a steady grade, but actually give a boost to your step. Mine are the RAT version with the polyurethane hardened toe and heel caps, but the construction, fit and performance are the same. Danner boots seem to be sized about the way higher quality American leather shoes are. If you're accustomed to wearing canvas shoes, running shoes or some of the walking shoes with wide toe boxes and thin, stretchy Nubuck leather, you'd better go to a shoe store and have them check your size with their Brannock foot measuring device before you order your boots.
