Sandstone Rancher Coat (#100110)
Rancher Coat is a Heavy Warm Coat
I am a big fan of the Chore Coats but when in the snow/colder conditions this "Rancher Coat" is awesome. (Just to note I have an older USA made version of this coat that I bought back in 1998. It is near identical but is missing the new features like chest pockets and iPod/earphone accommodations.) This coat has LARGE square bottom pockets and side hand warmer pockets behind them. The inside lining is incredibly warm when combined with the thick cotton Sandstone duck on the outside. This is one heavy coat. The length of the coat extends down below the waste (about 3 inches longer than the Chore Coats) The sleeves have elastic cuffs. Heavy double brass zipper (zips open up or down) and snap flap closure. Waist draw strings to cinch up coat. All features that really ensure the cold and snow stays out and the warmth in. I don't wear this coat all that often but when I do it always amazes me how incredibly nice it is and am thankful I have it to keep me warm!

Is all it promised to be. Have had several compliments on its appearance
Stylish and rugged, lots of pockets. Very happy with the jacket.

Great design with lots of options
This coat was a Christmas gift from my wife and it has quickly become one of the most durable and versatile coats I've ever owned. One of it's best features is the top load/hand warmer pocket combination. I love having hand warmer pockets but never liked carry tools and parts in them. This combo pocket design eliminates all of that. While it's a small touch, the media wire pocket is a very nice feature as well (shoveling snow is much more enjoyable with some music).
I only rated 4 stars in FIT because the coat seemed exceptionally long at first and took some adjustment to get used to. It was ordered and is labeled as a Large/Regular but has almost the feel of a Large/Tall. Be prepared for this when you order. I would happily recommend this to anyone looking for a solid chore coat with some deluxe features.

Well made, true to size. Not as good as I'd hoped for wind protection. I purchased it to use while riding my motorcycle. Still a very good coat for most applications.

Disappointment - design restricts shoulder/arm movement
I am a lifelong Carhartt user and this new edition to the Carhartt line appeared to be the coat I had been waiting for. I believed it would have all the features I loved in a coat: legendary Carhartt durability, bi-swing back, freedom of movement, mid-weight lining and more length. Unfortunately (please listen Carhartt), there is one overwhelming design flaw that caused me to return it with sadness. The designer chose to run a major horizontal triple-stitched main seam right across the shoulders on the back of the coat. The traditional vertical Carhartt back seam does not affect function. However, this horizontal shoulder seam severely limits any freedom of movement and essentially negates the functionality of the bi-swing back. The bi-swing back is the design element that is absolutely critical to Carhartt buyers that need to move their arms and shoulders in front of their body for work or play. In other words, the seam restricts forward arm and shoulder movement for tasks as simple driving a car or truck, let alone work. This review is meant to be constructive to improve this product.
